For those who require a truly unique carved stone fireplace, designed to their exact specification, The Open Fire Centre's Bespoke Stone Fireplace Service is ideal.
Drawing on the wealth of experience available from our stone masons who specialize in fine carving in stone from small ornemental work up to large church restoration work, there is no limit to the range of styles available.
All types of made to measure stone fireplaces can be designed and supplied.
The birth of a fireplace
A skilled stone mason assesses a slab of Yorkshire Sandstone for its suitability for creating a fireplace. The stone is checked for texture, colour, veining and freedom from flaws.		   Bespoke stone fireplaces start like this.
A carved stone fireplace starts as a stone block like this, being cut to size.   Cutting to size
After being selected for suitability, the large block is cut to thickness on the large circular saw.
Stocks of stone
Stocks of stone are held from quarries all over Yorkshire and surrounding areas. Yorkshire stone offers a wide variety of colours and textures. There are white, yellow and cream limestones, grey and brown sandstones and the best known Yorkstone, the hard, fine grained buff Millstone Grit quarried in Huddersfield.		   Carved stone fireplaces made from a variety of local stones.

Power tools are used to shape the block to the approximate shape required.
Final Carving
