The Open Fire Centre - Yorkshire St., Oldham, Lancashire

Kiln Dried logs:

These products are premium quality and should not be confused with those usually found at supermarkets & filling stations.

Ethical Sustainable Firewood
All logs are sourced from British woodland and forests registered with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Hardwood Logs
Unlike the softwood logs, found at garages and supermarkets, all our wood is hardwood, i.e. from trees that lose their leaves in the winter, such as Ash, Oak and Beech

Kiln Dried Logs for Better Burning
When felled, logs can be as much as 60% moisture (water). As we all know water does not burn so the combustion process is largely used to create steam rather than heat to the room. This can result in as little as a third as much heat into the room as with dry wood.
All our logs are kiln dried to drive out most of the moisture for better burning.

Types of wood used:   An 80 sack pallet
  • Ash - The King of firewood. Produces both heat and bright flame.
  • Oak - Very dense so difficult to dry. Burns very slowly and gives off lots of heat.
  • Beech - Produces good flame and heat. Has a tendency to spark.

Availability:

  • Logs are available in the showroom in handy plastic sacks pictured above.

Forest Stewardship Council.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.

Environmentally appropriate forest management ensures that the harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest's biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes.

Socially beneficial forest management helps both local people and society at large to enjoy long term benefits and also provides strong incentives to local people to sustain the forest resources and adhere to long-term management plans.
