Example of an Un-Lined Chimney

This is a typical example of what happens when a stove is fitted into a British chimney without a flue-liner.

The house is quite modern and just happens to be within sight of one of our manufacturers' depot. The householder kindly agreed for the photo to be taken as a warning to others.

Highly combustible tar has permeated right through the pointing and brickwork. In the event of a chimney fire, it is probable that the chimney structure would be sufficiently damaged to require re-building.

Makes a good liner look less expensive doesn't it !!
